Chef's Card

It's Halloween 2001, and I decide to freak out everybody at the office. Titan the cat (acting as head muse) and I set to work creating what is probably one of the most visually disgusting Halloween treats imaginable....

CATBOX CAKE

(Remember it's completely edible)

You can view the monstrosity below.

Kitty Litter Cake
Catboxcake recipe.pdf

Ingredients

1 Sick sense of humor
1 Spice or German chocolate cake mix
(And ingredients listed on box)
1 White cake mix
(And ingredients listed on box)
1 Package white sandwich cookies
1 Large package vanilla instant pudding mix
(And ingredients listed on box)
Green food coloring
12 Small Tootsie Rolls™
1 New kitty litter box or cardboard substitute.
1 New cat box liner
1 New pooper scooper

Instructions:

Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions. Prepare pudding mix according to package directions and chill until ready to assemble.

Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in a blender (they tend to stick so scrape often). Set aside all but about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops of green food coloring and mix using a fork, or shake in a jar.

Once the cakes have cooled to room temperature, crumble them into litter-sized crumbs in a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. You probably won't need all the pudding. Mix it with the cake and feel it; you don't want it soggy, just moist. Gently combine.

Place the liner in the litter box and gently spoon in the cake/pudding mixture.

Put 3 unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in a microwave-safe dish and heat until they are soft and pliable (3 to 10 seconds). Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat this process with 3 more Tootsie Rolls as many times as it takes for you feel fulfilled as a cat turd artist...

Sprinkle the other half of the cookie crumbs over the top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly as well (this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter). Viola! You've created a perfect cat box cake. Bon Appétit.

For Added effect:
Heat the remaining Tootsie Rolls , 3 at a time, in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs (partially bury some for effect). Take one and hang it over the side of the litter box, then sprinkle it lightly with cookie crumbs. Place the litter box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around. Serve with the new scooper.
